Dr. Lawrence Markovitz is an accomplished thoracic surgeon and specialist in venous disease. Dr. Markovitz worked as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Midelfort Clinic of Mayo Health System in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He introduced minimal lung and heart surgery to the clinic while serving as a physician performing heart and lung surgeries there. Dr. Lawrence Markovitz was formerly Attending Thoracic Surgeon and Chairman of Thoracic Surgery at two esteemed hospitals in the D.C. area.
Lawrence Markovitz, M.D. also directs Virginia Vein Care, a clinic that treats many types of vein disease, especially spider and varicose veins, for clients in the D.C. area. He leads the clinic and personally oversees each client’s treatment. Both Dr. Markovitz and his team strive to create a supportive atmosphere. Virginia Vein Care also provides advanced vein treatments such as VeinGogh Ohmic Thermolysis for spider and thread veins, and VNUS RF Closure and laser ablation for varicose veins.
Having earned his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and his M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Markovitz is also a scholar in his field. He served as a Research Fellow with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from July 1986 to June 1987. Lawrence Markovitz, M.D., has published 13 articles in scientific journals, created a collaborative poster for the 16th Annual Mayo Conference on Quality, and given eight presentations on his research.
Dr. Lawrence Markovitz has received professional accolades and awards from a variety of magazines and organizations. Named a Top Regional Doctor in Washingtonian Magazine in 2005, and Top Doctor with Washington Checkbook in 2007, he is the only D.C. surgeon offering vein treatment who received these awards. Most recently, Lawrence Markovitz, M.D., was named a Top Doctor in Washingtonian Magazine in 2008 and named one of America’s Top Surgeons in 2009.
In addition to his professional and academic experience, Dr. Markovitz makes spending time with his family a priority. He is also engaged in a variety of athletic pursuits, including football, skiing, and baseball.
